In the midst of a tough IPL 2025 season, Rishabh Pant is choosing to maintain a positive outlook regarding his performance. Following the Lucknow Super Giants' recent defeat to the Mumbai Indians, the captain emphasized the importance of prioritizing the team's needs over individual statistics.
"I’m keeping things straightforward. I’m not overthinking my form because in a season like this, where things aren’t going well, it’s easy to start doubting yourself as a player, and that’s something I want to avoid," Pant stated after the match.
He acknowledged that while one player's performance can significantly impact the team, it is unfair for broadcasters to continuously scrutinize his form.
"When the team struggles, it’s essential to focus on that because ultimately, it’s a team sport. Yes, one player can make a difference, but it’s not right to single out individuals every time," he added.
This season has been challenging for Pant with the bat, as he has accumulated only 110 runs across nine innings, with a top score of 63 against CSK. His strike rate stands at 98.21, averaging just 12.22.
Zaheer Khan Expresses Confidence in Pant's Leadership
Zaheer Khan, former Indian pacer and current LSG coach, has publicly supported Pant, praising his leadership skills and expressing confidence in his potential to perform.
"He’s a leader and has been exceptional in that role. I can attest to that. His efforts to ensure that every individual in the team feels comfortable and heard, along with his strategic planning for the IPL, have been spot on," Zaheer remarked during the post-match press conference following LSG's loss to MI.
Despite the challenges, Zaheer noted that the middle order relies heavily on Pant and is optimistic that he will soon find his rhythm.
"As a batter, the middle order is dependent on Rishabh. I’m confident that the impact we need from him will materialize. It’s just a matter of something clicking. I wouldn’t associate it with pressure. When discussing a team, we aim for tournament victories and trophies. We’ve recognized Rishabh as the leader to guide this team forward, without a doubt," Zaheer concluded.
The recent defeat to MI has placed LSG in a challenging position, currently sitting in 6th place with five wins and five losses, while MI has climbed to 3rd place after securing five consecutive victories.
